To determine the towing capacity of your tow vehicle, you should consult with your tow vehicle owner’s manual and your local automobile dealer or manufacturer. Other resources include your local RV dealer and Trailer Life magazine. Note: you will need to have your axle ratio to find your tow rating in the Trailer Life database.
Once you have determined your tow rating, you can compare that figure to the Unloaded Vehicle Weight (UVW) and the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the trailers in which you are interested. If you are looking at a specific Jayco trailer being sold by your Jayco dealer, there should be a weight sticker inside one of the kitchen cabinet doors that lists the GVWR, the UVW and the Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC) for that unit. (Beginning with 2009 models, those stickers are on both the inside of the entrance door and on the exterior wall of the roadside of the trailer.)
It is important for your safety and enjoyment that your tow vehicle be adequately sized and equipped to tow and handle the GVWR of the RV you select. Jayco recommends you do not exceed the GVWR of the trailer. We further recommend that you review the weight and rating of your tow vehicle and consult a competent advisor for questions or advice. Additionally, once you have loaded your trailer for camping, we recommend you weigh the trailer to ensure it does not exceed the GVWR of the trailer.
An excellent third-party resource on towing is the RV Safety Education Foundation, whose website you can link to at http://rvsafety.com/.
